When YNPN Cleveland Ambassador Annette Fetter was younger, she thought she’d one day become a teacher because of how much she enjoyed playing “school” with her sisters. These days, while Annette is not technically a teacher, she is still using her skills to share information in a variety of ways to teach people about the organization for which she works, Kidney Foundation of Ohio (KFO).
KFO’s mission is to provide “a broad program of direct assistance to persons with kidney disease and promotes and provides education programs for the general public, renal professionals and patients and their families” with the aim that people with renal disease and transplant recipients will have an improved quality of life and a greater level of acceptance within their communities. It serves many counties in Ohio and even some in West Virginia.
Annette’s day-to-day duties as the Assistant Development Director include: planning and coming up with fresh ideas for the organization’s various fundraising events, creating newsletters to keep people informed about the organization’s activities, and crafting social media posts that suit and benefit KFO’s audience and supporters.
Graduating from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations, Annette credits her volunteer and event-planning experiences throughout college with helping her land this role. She even met her current supervisor while volunteering at another organization’s event in the spring semester of her senior year, and began her journey at KFO the day after she graduated.
Joining YNPN Cleveland appealed to Annette as a way to connect with other young, like-minded professionals on similar career paths. She explained what she loves about YNPN by saying, “My favorite thing is being able to bounce ideas and learn new skills from my peers.” Annette also now serves as an Ambassador on YNPN Cleveland's Outreach Committee, helping to publicize our events and share information with our members.
Though originally from Stow in Summit County, Annette now lives closer to Cleveland, in Lakewood, and loves all that Cleveland has to offer young professionals. She said, “Cleveland has everything to offer that a big city has: great food, awesome attractions, a nightlife scene, but with a small city community feeling that I love.” In her spare time, Annette goes to sporting events and concerts, tries new restaurants, and stays active and involved in and around the city. In addition to YNPN Cleveland, Annette is involved with the Young Alumni Group at Baldwin Wallace and the Cleveland West Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter. When she can, she loves to volunteer at events like she did in college, particularly with the Epilepsy Association.
When Annette gets some time to travel beyond Cleveland, she’d most love to go to Thailand. She’s never been but she thinks the food, culture and scenery seem amazing and unlike any other place she’s been able to visit. Eventually, Annette hopes to achieve her ambitious goal of visiting all 50 states and 7 continents.
