Brian Schultz, YNPN Cleveland Member

Meet Brian!

As a Cleveland native and an avowed devotee to the city’s burgeoning foodie scene, YNPN Cleveland Member Brian Schultz knows this community well.  It is appropriate, then, that he currently serves as the Community Outreach Manager for the Foundation Center’s Cleveland office.  By offering trainings and other resources to nonprofit organizations throughout the Midwest, he helps communicate the Foundation Center’s mission to “connect people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed.”

However, Brian’s career started on a different path.  After completing dual majors in International Business and International Affairs at Xavier University, he briefly went into the corporate sector, but quickly realized his path led elsewhere.  He pursued a year of service as a City Year Corps Member in Cleveland, and that experience helped him find his current career interests.  With the Foundation Center, he has become a local expert on worldwide issues in philanthropy, and he plans over a hundred events per year and designs special outreach programs.  One of his favorites is Rising Tide, a program that focuses on developing innovations for good and encouraging social change through empowering low-income female, African-American, and LGBTQ populations.

Brian has also put his outreach skills to good use in service of other nonprofit and community organizations.  He cites his time as a Production Coordinator at TEDxCLE and his service on the short film selection committee for the Cleveland International Film Festival as two particularly formative experiences.  They “opened him up to new ideas,” he says, and gave him a wider perspective on the city of Cleveland.  His current project involves his participation in the local chapter of Levo League, an organization that addresses professional development as part of creating, as their mission statement says, “a life you’re passionate about.”

When he isn’t working, volunteering, or pursuing his love of the local foodie scene, Brian enjoys attending musicals at Playhouse Square and taking his dog to Edgewater Park.  He now lives in the Gordon Square neighborhood, which he says is one of the best neighborhoods in Cleveland because of its eclectic mix of neighbors and businesses. When he gets the chance to leave Cleveland,Brian heads to Europe—though he intends to eventually make his way through the entire continent, his next goal is to see Scandinavia!

Brian’s interest in community engagement also led him to YNPN Cleveland.  He joined this organization because it provided perfect opportunities for connecting him to “young professionals in Cleveland who were in the business of social good.”  He keeps coming back to YNPN events because he always meets “a diverse array of people who are doing amazing things in Cleveland!”  If you’d like to know more about what Brian does at the Foundation Center, or just chat about Cleveland, you can find him on Twitter at @trendyBS or on LinkedIn at, or you can email him at
