Some beach, some where…
Love the beach, but don’t love the thought of spending money on a plane ticket to get there?! We may not have access to an ocean, but the beaches of Lake Erie have that Cleveland charm we love so much.
Edgewater Beach - Edgewater Beach has really upped its game lately! With the new beach house (that serves beer!) and plenty of volleyball nets and room to play, you’ll forget how close you are to the city.
Perkins Beach - On the west end of Edgewater beach near Rocky River, Perkins Beach leaves all of the hustle and bustle of Edgewater behind. Visitors often choose Perkins as more relaxing place to look for beach glass and enjoy the views of the water.
Mentor-On-The-Lake - This destination is actually a city - but you’ll get completely different beach vibes than you will in The Land. Mentor-On-The-Lake has plenty of adorable, locally owned bars, restaurants and shopping. You’ll see picturesque lighthouses and plenty of lakeside cottages - you’ll just be missing that city skyline.
Geneva-On-The-Lake - Don’t mind a drive? Geneva-On-The-Lake is a summer essential, then! While you’ll be heading out of Cleveland, the amazing wineries, peaceful lakeside porches and small-town hospitality will make it worth the trip. Book a room at a bed and breakfast, hop on the area’s wine shuttle and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a whole new venue.
Want to get out on the water? Rent jet-skis, kayaks or paddle boards at various rental spots around the city! Would you rather have a captain controlling your vessel? Take a ride on the GoodTime III or the Nautica Queen!
One with nature
Looking for green space instead of sand? Cleveland is home to plenty of picturesque parks and green spaces.
Lakewood Park - Lakewood Park has a little bit of everything - from lakefront views to a playground for kids and basketball courts and baseball diamonds. Want a great place to watch the sunset? Head to the solstice steps to see a breathtaking view of the sun disappearing behind the lake.
Cleveland Metroparks - The Cleveland Metroparks is full of hidden gems, including Mill Creek Falls - the highest waterfall in Cuyahoga County.
Whiskey Island - While it’s not an actual island, Whiskey Island is a marina that sits at the peninsula at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River at Lake Erie.
Holden Arboretum - This will take you away from the city, but get you on top of the trees! The Holden Arboretum has a canopy walk that lets you truly become one with nature. The arboretum also features an emergent tower that gets you higher than the trees and gives you an amazing view of the area’s greenery!
Feels Like Home Farm - Two words: goat yoga. Yep, you’ve got that right - visit these farms to do some yoga with goats and Ernie the yoga pig.
Other notable green spaces include: Rocky River Reservation, Cleveland Cultural Gardens, Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve and the Rockefeller Park and Greenhouse

Play: CLE - Looking for an adventure? Head to one of the area’s newest attractions - Play: CLE. With everything from a zipline to a Ninja Warrior Course, you’ll be sure to feel like a kid again.
Tabletop Board Game Cafe - Play childhood classics in some new scenery by heading to Tabletop. Located in Ohio City, order some snacks and a good drink and breakout your favorite childhood games (there’s more than 1,000 to choose from!).
Superelectric Pinball Parlor - With more than 20 pinball games to choose from, you can spend anywhere from an hour to a whole day at this unique hangout! A kitchen also opened up in May, so you can snack and play all day.
Scene75 Entertainment Center - Head out into the suburbs, but have big city fun! With everything from Go-Karts to arcade games and a laser maze (yes… you read that right… unleash your inner James Bond!) you can eat, drink and play at this adult-friendly entertainment center.
16 Bit Arcade + Bar - With more than 40 classic arcade games on the floor, you’re sure to find a game you love here (hello, NBA Jam and Frogger!). The games are free to play as long as you buy a drink, so drink up and play on!
Forest City Shuffleboard - Some may argue that shuffleboard reminds them of retirement communities instead of childhood classics… but either way it's a great game! Rent a board and meet your personal shuffleboard expert who will teach you all the rules of the game. Best part? You can bring your own food in!
Cleveland Axe Throwing - Yep - just like the name implies - get out and throw some axes! Works as a great stress reliever or a unique way to spend the day. Safety classes included.
AutoRama Twin Drive In - Take a short drive out of the city and sit under the stars to watch a movie! The drive-in may have opened in the ‘90s, but it shows current films.
Getting creative in CLE
The Cleveland Candle Company - Looking to dip into some fun? Make your own soy candle at one of the two Cleveland Candle Company locations. You can get to pick your own scents and work with a mixing expert who will help you make the perfect candle! Make your own label and pick up your candle the same day.
The Glass Bubble Project - Visit one of the most unique spots in the city and learn how to blow glass. The space is filled with a collection of handmade glass baubles and decorations that will be sure to catch your eye. Looking for a similar experience in a different part of town? Visit Larchmere Fireworks.
Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland - Check out some of the best exhibits in the city at MOCA Cleveland. The exhibits are always changing, so feel free to check it out more than once this season.
Kitchen 216 - A Cleveland location of Hudson’s Western Reserve School of Cooking, you can let our your creative flair in the kitchen at Kitchen 216. Follow their Facebook page for events and opportunities to put your chef hat on!

Need to beat the heat by heading inside? No worries - in our city, you can stay cool while seeing cool places, too. These may not be your vacation norm, but you’ll be sure to get some interesting stories from each visit.
The Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick - With more than 500 artifacts ranging from Ancient Egypt to contents from the Salem Witch Trials, this museum has travelled around quite a bit and landed right here in Ohio! Take a trip to Tremont and get spooky.
The Museum of Divine Statues - Ever wonder what happens to statues and artifacts when a church closes? Well, this museum is here to answer those questions! Get in touch with your spiritual side by revisiting memories of Cleveland’s closed Catholic churches.
Dittrick Museum of Medical History - Home to books, artifacts and images that explain how medicine has advanced to the modern age - this museum is sure to be an interesting day trip. It’s home to a history of contraception exhibit, historical medical and surgical instruments and even nursing uniforms.
