Local Organization Spotlight: Drink Local. Drink Tap.

Drink Local. Drink Tap. (DLDT) has a mission that spans continents. Working as a registered nonprofit in both Cleveland and Uganda, the DLDT team “inspires individuals to recognize and solve our water issues through creative education, events, and providing safe water access to people in need.”

They accomplish this by educating children, youth, and adults across Northeast Ohio about water-related issues facing Cleveland and Uganda through classroom and community group visits and educational materials like documentaries.  They also build sustainable clean water projects in Uganda for schools and communities and encourage people to get active in protecting our water and environment and improving conditions for all at home and abroad.

It’s not just the local and global mission that makes DLDT unique. From the very beginning stages of the organization and continuing today, DLDT's work has been made possible, as well as successful and meaningful, because of its connection & commitment to individuals.  They are committed to understanding the issues they are working to solve on a personal level, whether they are tending to schools and water sources in Cleveland or in Uganda.

DLDT is also propelled by a strong belief in the power that individual actions have to make a large, collective, positive impact. That belief is seen in its supporters and volunteers, too. On Saturdays from April to September, volunteers participate in beach cleanups which provide a great opportunity to protect Lake Erie from pollutants in a tangible way and to meet new people with similar interests. There is even an after clean-up party held for select dates.

On May 6th, you can support DLDT by spending the day running or walking in the outdoors, attending a free festival with activities & music, or enjoying food from food trucks in a kid and pet-friendly environment at the annual 4 Miles 4 Water event. This year, 4 Miles 4 Water will be held at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium and Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica waterfront. The free All Things Water Festival portion of the event will be from 8AM to 1PM! Donations are encouraged and appreciated. Registration for the race, which features a 4-mile run and 1-mile walk, supports DLDT’s local and global programs and allows DLDT to provide clean water to one person in Uganda for life!
